2015 IWBF European Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Championship draw announced

Earlier today, the IWBF announced the draw for the 2015 Men’s European Wheelchair Basketball Championship at a ceremony at the Worcester Cathedral.

Group A includes Poland, Spain, Czech Republic, France, Germany and Great Britain. Group B includes the Netherlands, Turkey, Israel, Switzerland, Sweden and Italy. By virtue of hosting, Great Britain got to select which pool they wanted to be placed in after all but the last two pool places had been decided. In selecting Group A, Italy found itself in Group B.

The competition is scheduled to get underway on August 28 and run until September 6 in Worcester, England, and includes both the men’s and women’s continental championships. The championship is an important event on the 2016 Summer Paralympics qualifying schedule. The top seven ranked men’s teams and top five ranked women’s teams earn automatic qualification. The top finisher at the four regional qualifying tournaments who are not among the automatic qualifiers then get a qualifying berth.
