2015: The year ahead in athletics

Athletics is one of the most popular of all disability sports. It is on the program of pretty much every major multi-sport event. It is also very popular on the local level. With the Paralympic season upon us in 2016, track and field athletes will be gearing up to qualify for Games during 2015 season.  The sport is also popular with Special Olympics and in deaf sport.

January

  • Beppu-Oita Mainichi Marathon takes place on January 2 in Japan.
  • Xiamen International Marathon take place in Xiamen, China on January 3.
  • Tiberias Winner Marathon (Israel)  takes place on January 9 in an event organized by Israeli NF (Israeli Athletic Federation).
  • NSW Club Champs & Combined Events (Australia)  takes place from January 10 – 11 in Sydney.
  • On January 20, the East Cross  Country Series takes place at the Herriot Watt University, Riccarton Campus in the United Kingdom.
  • Wheelchair Track and Road Development Training takes place every Saturday at  9:00 am at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre – Warm-Up Track in New South Wales.

February

  • 2015 Inas European Cross Country Championships take place from February 19 – 23 in Wakefield, United Kingdom.
  • Regional Competition & Selection for Lothian Squad takes place at West Lothian College, Livingston in February.
  • On February 17, the East Cross  Country Series takes place at the Herriot Watt University, Riccarton Campus in the United Kingdom.
  • Wheelchair Track and Road Development Training takes place every Saturday at  9:00 am at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre – Warm-Up Track in New South Wales.

March

  • SDS National  Championships take place on March 4 at The Peak Sports Centre, Stirling in Scotland.
  • 7th Inas Open European Indoor Athletics Championships  will take place in St Petersburg, Russia in March 11 – 15.
  • On March 17, SDS National Cross Country Champs take place in Scotland at Bellahouston, Glasgow.
  • Wheelchair Track and Road Development Training takes place every Saturday at  9:00 am at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre – Warm-Up Track in New South Wales.

April

  • London Marathon/IPC Athletics Marathon World Championships takes place on April 26.
  • Wheelchair Track and Road Development Training takes place every Saturday at  9:00 am at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre – Warm-Up Track in New South Wales.
  • The New Zealand Junior Disability Games take place from April 10 – 12 at  St Peter’s College, Cambridge.Sports on the program include ambulant football, athletics, blind cricket, boccia, cycling, equestrian, goalball, powerchair football, rowing, swimming, triathlon, waka ama, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis.

May

  • IBSA World Games take place from May 8 – 18 in Seoul, South Korea.  Sports on the program include Powerlifting, Judo, Goalball, Football, Chess, Tenpin Bowling, Tandem Cycling, Swimming, Showdown, Athletics.
  • On May 12, Regional Competition & Selection for Lothian Squad takes place at Meadowmill Sports Centre, Tranent.
  • Wheelchair Track and Road Development Training takes place every Saturday at  9:00 am at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre – Warm-Up Track in New South Wales.

June

  • Wheelchair Track and Road Development Training takes place every Saturday at  9:00 am at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre – Warm-Up Track in New South Wales.
  • TheEl Salvador hosted Torneo de Atletismo Paralímpico is scheduled to take place from June 18 – 20 at the Estadio Nacional Jorge Magico Gonzalez.  The competition is a qualifying for the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto later in the year.

July

  • The 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games open on July 25 and close on August 2 in  Los Angeles, California.  Sports on the program include Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball., Beach Volleyball, Basketball, Bocce. Bowling, Cycling, Equestrian, Football (Soccer), Golf, Gymnastics, Judo, Kayaking, Open Water Swim, Powerlifting, Rollerskating, Sailing, Table Tennis, Team Handball, Tennis, Triathlon, Softball, Volleyball.
  • 9th European Deaf Athletics Championships take place in ydgoszcz, Poland  from July 20 – 25.
  • Wheelchair Track and Road Development Training takes place every Saturday at  9:00 am at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre – Warm-Up Track in New South Wales.

August

  • From August 7 – 15, the Para Pan American Games take place in Toronto. Archery, athletics, boccia, cycling, football 5-a-side, football 7-a-side, goalball, judo, powerlifting, sitting volleyball, swimming, table tennis, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby and wheelchiar tennis are all on the program.
  • Wheelchair Track and Road Development Training takes place every Saturday at  9:00 am at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre – Warm-Up Track in New South Wales.

September

  • The INAS Global Games will take place in Guayaquil, Ecuador from September 20 – 27.  Sports on the program include athletics, basketball, cycling, futsal, rowing, swimming, tennis, and tennis table.
  • From September 26 to October 2, the  IWAS World Game take place in Sochi, Russia.  Sports on the program include Archery, Arm wrestling, Athletics, Para-Taekwondo, Swimming and Table Tennis.
  • 2015 Asia-Pacific Deaf Games take place from September 29 – October 13  in Taoyuan, Taipei. Sports on the program include athletics, tennis, badminton, baseball, basketball, bowling, cycling, football, futsal, Taekwondo, karate, Orienteering, swimming, table tennis, judo, volleyball, and wrestling.
  • Wheelchair Track and Road Development Training takes place every Saturday at  9:00 am at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre – Warm-Up Track in New South Wales.

October

  • From October 22 – 31, IPC Athletics World Championships, Doha, Qatar take place.
  • Wheelchair Track and Road Development Training takes place every Saturday at  9:00 am at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre – Warm-Up Track in New South Wales.

November

  • Wheelchair Track and Road Development Training takes place every Saturday at  9:00 am at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre – Warm-Up Track in New South Wales.

December

  • 2015 Asean Para Games take place in Singapore from December 3 – 9.  Sports on the program include archery, athletics, boccia, chess, badminton and five-a-side football, seven-a-side football, goalball, powerlifting, sailing, tenpin bowling, shooting, swimming, table tennis and wheelchair basketball.
