Argentina qualifies for IBSA Blind Football Championships semifinal

Earlier tonight in Tokyo, Japan, Argentina scored a late second half goal to up 1 – 0 against Colombia at the IBSA Blind Football Championships and eventually win the game.  The victory gives them a place in the semifinals, where they will meet Spain, whom they beat 1 – 0 in group play.

Unlike yesterday’s games where it poured rain, this one was played precipitation free with a temperature of around 14 C / 57 F. The game was a tight one, with lots of intensity on both sides.  At least one player, a Colombian, was yellow carded.  The final seconds of the game included a penalty kick, which if the Argentinian player had followed through on his shot, could have made the final scoreline 2 – 0, though this was not to be.  The whistle blew, and Argentinian players celebrated their win.

Argentina and Spain have a day of rest before their semifinal match up. The games on the schedule for Saturday are all placement matches, which see Turkey playing South Korea, Paraguay taking on Colombia, France playing Morocco, and Japan taking on Germany.
