Asd Roma 2000 crowned champions of La coppa Italia di calcio

Yesterday in Pavullo nel Frignano, Asd Roma 2000 won the La coppa Italia di calcio after beating Liguria 2-0.

Antonio Martín Gaitán scored both of the team’s goals. Gaitán is a Spanish international, and was named the best European footballer in 2005.  He won a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Paralympics.  Late last year, he had moved to Madrid to take advantage of the facilities at Ciudad Deportiva del Real Madrid while recovering from a left knee injury.

In the bronze medal match, Cervelli scored four goals, while Dongiovanni and Marchiello scored one each in their team’s 6 – 1 victory.  Neither FISPIC nor IBSA Blind Football  reported the names of the team in the bronze medal match.

Italian men’s able-bodied international Luca Toni presented Asd Roma 2000 with their trophy.

The competition was organized by Federazione Italiana Sport Paralimpici per Ipovedenti e Ciechi (FISPIC), the Italian Paralympic Committee recognised national governing body for blind sport in Italy.
