Sarah Calati is reporting this afternoon that the Australians have qualified for wheelchair tennis’s World Team Cup event in Turkey after putting up a quality performance at the BNP Paribas World Team Cup Asian Qualifications tournament in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
On the first day of competition, the Australians beat Chinese Taipei 3 – 0, and then went on to play hosts Sri Lanka whom they also blanked 3 – 0. This set them up to meet Chinese Taipei again, but this time in the finals.
Asia has been very successful for Calati on the individual level for the three week tour: At the SSC Open Uniqlo International Wheelchair Tennis Futures Series 2015, she had a pair of second place finishes. One was in the women’s singles event, and the other was in the women’s double event. The event took place two days before the qualifying event, with a day in between for practice. At the Taiwan Open Lions Cup, she won the consolation final in the women’s single event after defeating a player from Japan. In the women’s doubles event, she was less successful, where she lost in the semifinals.
