Earlier today, the Czech Republic national 5-a-side football team beat Hungary 1 – 0 in the first semifinal of IBSA Euro Challenge Cup being held in the Czech Republic this weekend.  In the second semifinal, Belgium defeated Poland 1 – 0.  The Czech Republic and Belgium are now scheduled to meet in the final.

In the third game of the competition, during group play, the Czech Republic beat Belgium 1 – 0.  Belgium’s first match in group play was against Moldova, which they won 2 – 1.  In the Czech Republic’s final game in group play, they defeated Moldova 1 – 0.  The Czech Republic finished first in group play, and Belgium finished second.

Jan Mrázek scored his team’s lone goal in their win over Belgium and in their win against Moldova.  IBSA Football has yet to report on goalscorers for the semifinal games. According to IBSA football’s website, Kevin Vanderborght scored both goals for Belgium in their game against Moldova. According to Ligue Handisport Francophone,  Alexandre Wespes of Cécifoot Belgium Bruxelles scored one goal in that game and Vanderborght scored the other.  If the IBSA is correct, going into the semifinals, Vanderborght and Mrázek led the tournament with two each.

Mrázek is not a complete stranger to blind football.  In 2012, 2013 and 2014, he was playing in a domestic league for Sestava Avoy MU Brno. He has also attending a blind football training camp in Bučovice. Vanderborght came into the competition seeking to prove his worth.  He plays his football for Cécifoot Charleroi Belgium. His Belgian squad started training for this competition with a national team training camp on June 14,

The 2014 IBSA Euro Challenge Cup was created as an opportunity for new and developing European teams to gain valuable international experience, and to assist with the development of the game in those countries.
