Belgium men finish sixth at IBSA European Goalball Championships

The Belgium men have finished their run at the Lithuania hosted IBSA European Goalball Championships with a sixth place finish after losing their placement match against Germany. Belgium qualified for the placement match after defeating Sweden 8 – 1. They played that match as a consequence of losing their quarterfinal match up to the Czech Republic  4 –  10.



The Belgians had a bad start in group play with two early losses, including a 5 – 9  to loss Turkey, and 4 – 8 to loss Finland.  They then managed a  10 – 5 win against Spain. In the final game of group play, Belgium was ahead of Ukraine 7 – 6, but they had a bad last two minutes and the opposition scored to goals to win it.



Belgium entered the tournament ranked fifteenth in the world, and eighth in Europe behind Lithuania, Turkey, Finland, Czech Republic, Spain, Slovenia and Sweden.
