Bernal, Meza, Lasso and Jauregui to play in wheelchair tennis’s Ecuador Open semifinal

Colombia’s Angelica Bernal, Ecuador’s Alexandra Meza, Ecuador’s Carolina Lasso and Peru’s Pilar Jauregui are all playing in the Cuenca Tenis Club Via a San Joaquin Cuenca hosted Ecuador Open women’s singles semifinal. World 48 Bernal takes on Meza who is ranked 150th, while world 140 Lasso plays 79th ranked Jauregui.



In the last meeting between Bernal and Meza at the Quito Open earlier in the year, Bernal easily won 2 – 6 and 1 – 6. Lasso and Jauregui have met two times before, with Jauregui winning 2 – 6 and 3 – 6 at this year’s Copa Quito Tenis y Golf Club, and winning 0 – 6 and 1 – 6 at the 2012 edition of the Ecuador Open.


Neither Bernal nor Jauregui had to play quarterfinal matches, and come into their matches fresh.  Meza defeated Peru’s Maria Castillo 6 – 2 and 6 – 0 to earn her spot.  Meanwhile, Lasso beat countrywoman Sarita Carlosama after Carlosama retired in the first set.


The competition for the men’s, women’s and quad concludes later today.
