British squad announced for IWRF European Championships

This week, Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby announced the team selected to compete at the 2015 Wheelchair Rugby European Championships scheduled to be held in Pajulahti in September.  The squad includes Jim Roberts, Ayaz Bhuta, Jamie Stead, Mandip, Ross Morrison, Gavin Walker, Coral Batey, Chris Ryan, Alan, Bulbul Hussain, Jonathan Coggan and Mike Kerr. Ryan has been selected as the team captain, while Walker has been given the role of vice-captain.


At the draw held this past weekend, Great Britain was put into Group A alongside Belgium, France, and reigning European champions Sweden.  This tournament is an important one as top two finishers at the European Championship earns a qualifying berth to the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio.
Great Britain enters the competition as reigning bronze medalists, and the top ranked European team in IWRF rankings, where they currently sit in fifth position.  The team has had recent success, finishing first at the Metro Cup in Warsaw. The team is schedule to depart for Switzerland later this week to compete in the Swiss Preparation tournament, where they will meet Sweden, along with Denmark and Finland.
