With the 2015 Americas Wheelchair Basketball Challenge having been organized as a warmup event for the upcoming Para Panamerican Games, Team Canada has announced the roster of players they plan to have competing at the event scheduled to get underway on March 22. It includes Deion Green, Liam Hickey, Bo Hedges, Vincent Dallaire, Peter Won, Adam Lancia, Abdi Dini, Chad Jassman, Nik Goncin, Jonathan Vermette, Tyler Miller, and David Eng. They will be coached by Jerry Tonello.
About half the squad is composed of returning Paralympic gold medal winning veterans, including Wonowon, British Colombia native Hedges, Scarborough, Ontario natives Lancia and Dini, Calgary, Alberta local Jassman, Kitchener, Ontario hometown player Kitchener, and Montreal based Eng.
The team’s newer players have been drawn from across Canada, including British Colombia’s Green, Newfoundland’s Hickey, Quebec’s Dallaire and Vermette, and Saskatchewan’s Goncin. Only head coach Tonello is a Toronto native. Hickey comes to the team after representing Prince Edwards Island at the 2015 Canada Winter Games, where he was one of the leaders on his team in scoring
Canada’s men are scheduled to play teams from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and the United States.
