Yesterday, three Croatian table tennis players, Anđela Mužinić, Helena Dretar Karić and Mirjana Lučić, booked their tickets to the Rio Paralympics based on their year-end International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) rankings.
Mužinić finished the year ranked fourth in Class 3, while teammate and fellow Class 3 competitor Dretar Karić finished the year ranked sixteenth. Lučić finished the year ranked sixth in Class 10.
The trio join Sandra Paović, who had already qualified for Rio based on the strength of her performance at the 2015 European Championships and is ranked first in the world in Class 6.
More spots may still be available for the Croatians, as their NPC has the option of asking for more, with a realistic option for additional spots being given being two. Croatia has some depth, and Mikela Ristoski, Branimir Budetić and Zoran Talić all have the skills to step up and represent their country on that level.
