Retraction: Deaf Sports Australia contacted us to let us know that they have not and will not be boycotting ICSD events. Last week, Deaf Sports Australia published a video on YouTube expressing concerns about current governance issues inside International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD).  Their primary concern was that ICSD leadership has largely been non-communicative with its member organizations over the course of the last year. Because of this, Deaf Sports Australia has decided to boycott ICSD organized events, including the Winter and Summer Deaflympics.

According to Deaf Sports Australia, while they feel membership in ICSD is important for their members, there have been no benefits to them for organizational membership.  They claim the ICSD has provided them little information, and they have been been unable to ask questions of leadership and get answers.  This is despite repeated attempts to engage with them through multiple channels.  Deaf Sports Australia claims that ICSD had not been compliant in following the organization’s constitution, policies and rules. Deaf Sports Australia has said they reached out to other national deaf sport organizations, and they have said they have experienced similar issues in dealing with the international organization.

Alex Jones, a member of the Board of Deaf Sports Australia was the person chosen to speak in representing the opinions of the organization.
