Federazione Italiana di Pallacanestro in Carrozzina (FIPIC) reported today that the organization’s President Fernando Zappile is happy with the Italian men’s national wheelchair basketball team’s performance at the recently completed IWBF World Championships in Incheon, South Korea.  The quality of the result gave the team a lot of confidence going forward.

With the tournament complete, Zappile said it now time for the national team to focus on the 2015 men’s European Championships, being hosted by the University of Worcester.  The decision to focus on this as the next goal is one Zappile and the men’s national team technical director Dionysius Cappelletti are in agreement on.

Zappile also believes changes to the domestic Italian wheelchair basketball league have paid dividends in players like Filippo Carossino and Francesco Santorelli. Both made important contributions to the team during the world championships. These changes will continue. Next season, all teams will be required to have two Italian players on the court during games.
