Four Ghanaian para-athletes honored



Four Ghanaian para athletes McClean Atsu Dzidzienyo,Botsio Nkegbe,Aishsa Siedu and Yakubu Abubakari were honored by a Ghanaian shipping company Yak Dan shipping. The four para cyclist were honored after making Ghana proud this year, for winning three gold a silver and a bronze after taking part in the 13th OCC Para Marathon in Johannesburg ,South Africa.

The team prior to the competition lacked financial support, but the company Yakdan came to their aid, trip.


Addressing the media CEO of Yakdan Daniel Nii Mensah said,” The team lacked support to prepare for, and travel to participate in the competition. The touching story, coupled with the determination, perseverance and zeal written on the faces of these Para Cyclists got me on my toes to rally financial and psychological support for them”.

“With all these challenges staring at them in the face, these four gallant individuals did not allow themselves to be deterred. They defied all odds, surmounted all hurdles, fought tooth and nail to lift the flag of Ghana high”,

McClean Atsu Dzidzienyo and Aisha Seidu both won gold from the 21km half marathon and 42km full marathon respectively with Yakubu Abukari winning bronze from the 42km full marathon while team captain, Botsio Nkegbe won solver in the 42km full marathon in 55 minutes.

It was an improved performance from the cyclist in the last year’s edition which saw the team winning only a medal after competing with cyclists from UK, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria and Puerto Rico.

Meanwhile in an exclusive interview with Ghana’s longest Para Olympian Botsio Nkegbe Silver medalist at the event in South Africa reveled to Parasport news that he wont compete at the Para Olympics in Brazil 2016.
