On Wednesday, the IBSA sent announcements to national goalball teams regarding which teams had been invited to participate in the 2015 Para Pan American Games. These teams included Argentina, Brazil, Canada, the United States, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.
Following this announcement, teams set about trying to arrange matches in preparation for the competition. Puerto Rico was invited by Nicaragua and Venezuela. Because of Venezuela’s participation in the Para Pan American Games, they are currently working on trying to set that up.
Going into the Para Pan American Games, the Puerto Rico team has some challenges. Currently, the team practices two days a week in a physical education classroom at the Universidad de Puerto Rico. The space has issues, that make developing an elite program difficult. The floors are non-regulation cement, and players risk injury playing on it. The Puerto Ricans are also in the process of trying to find a person to assist in leading their program ahead of the 2015 IBSA World Games in May in Seoul, where they hope to send a team.
