Great Britain men win opener against Lithuania at sitting volleyball’s Riga Cup

Earlier today, the men’s sitting volleyball team from Great Britain won their opener against Lithuania at the Riga Cup in Latvia.  They won in straight sets, going 25 – 13, 25 – 16, and 25 – 22.




Great Britain’s team in Latvia includes captain Rob Richardson, Danny Jarvis, Corie Mapp, John Munro, Johnny Parker, Justin Phillips, Kevin Tann, Charlie Walker andJohn Worrall. They are being coached by Branislav Kovac, with Karen Hung serving as the assistant coach and Gordon Day serving as the team manager.   Jarvis and Parker are both getting their first international caps for Great Britain at this tournament.  It is also the first major competition with Kovac at the helm.


The team’s next match is against Estonia, and then they play Latvia 2 in the afternoon.  On Sunday, they are scheduled to play Moscow and Latvia 1.  Latvia’s coaches are using the competition to assess players ahead of the European championships in October. The Moscow team contains players from the national junior and senior team for Russia.
