In a three-deep field on the opening day of competition at the Dubai hosted 2016 IPC Athletics Asia-Oceania Championships, India’s Manoj Baskar came away with a first place finish in the men’s T44 200m event with a time of 24.90.

Baskar narrowly beat fellow Indian competitor Anandan Gunasekaran by 4/100ths of a second. Sri Lanka’s Ajith Hettiarachchi finished third with a time of 25.05 seconds.

Baskar’s time is one of the best put up this year by T44 competitors, but is short of a 2016 Paralympic A Qualifying time of 0:23.30.  All competitors met the Paralympic B Qualifying time of 0:25.80 in a field where 26 competitors have already set B qualifying times for Rio.

21-year-old Baskar has two other events remaining on his 2016 IPC Athletics Asia-Oceania Championships program, including the 100 and 400 meters.
