On Wednesday, the International Paralympic Committee’s Chief Executive Officer Xavier Gonzalez sent a latter to the Paralympic Committee of India to inform them that they had been suspended from the IPC.

The IPC cites as the reason internal conflicts in India related to the NPC, different sport groups and individuals involved with disability sport in India. The IPC claims they have assisted as much as possible, but that the conflicts have reached a point where they have undermined the ability to develop Paralympic sport in India. The IPC believes this situation is bad for India’s disability athletes.

The suspension is bad news for India’s Paralympic athletes who have lost all ability to compete in IPC sanctioned events under the flag of India. It also means, the PCI has lost voting rights as part of the IPC General Assembly.
