Under the leadership of a new national team coach, Iran men’s sitting volleyball team are currently attending a national team training camp. The fourteen invited players have been in camp since Monday. Players have been drawn from provinces across the country, including Tehran, Qom, Alborz, Qazvin, Mazandaran, Golestan, Gilan and Khorasan.
Players at camp include Mehrzad Mehravan from Alborz Province, Hossein Farzaneh from Qazvin Province, Hossein Golestani from Qom Province, Mohammad Khaleghi, Mahdi Hamidzadeh, Sadegh Bigdeli, Ramezan Salehihajikolaei, Majid Lashkarisanami, Meisam Alipour Alkami, Ahmad Eiri, and Davoud Alipourian who all competed at this year’s world championships.
Iran’s men have already booked their place at the 2016 Summer Paralympics by finishing in the top three at this year’s world championships after defeating Egypt in the bronze medal match. The team is expected to compete at the 2014 Para Asian Games taking place in Incheon, South Korea in October. The tournament is an opportunity for the team to get adjusted to the demands of their new coach ahead of Rio.
