Earlier today, Ireland lost the bronze medal game to the Danish side at the  Prague hosted Rugbymania 2014 to finish fourth in the competition.  The game was evenly matched until Alan “Leggy” Dineen was injured. After that, the Danes seized the momentum on their road to victory.

Ireland beat Great Britain and Brazil to qualify through group stage to the semifinals where they lost. The Irish roster included Stephen Aylmer, Thomas Moylan, Alan Dineen, Johnny Mulhall, Ciara Staunton, Alan Lynch, Garret Cullinton, Will Doggart. The team is relatively new and has not been ranked amongst the world’s elite. In August of this year, they were ranked 23rd out of 26 ranked teams. Only South Korea, Mexico and Israel were ranked lower.  Stuart McLindon and Naomi OReilly have worked really hard to try to improve the quality of play for the Irish side, and this tournament shows the results of all their hard work.

The Danish squad was one of the smallest in the competition, and included Thor Johansson, Kurt Busk, Jasper Krüger, Kristian Bak Eriksen, Leon Jorgensen, and Sebastian Frederiksen.
