Earlier this morning, Ireland men’s national wheelchair basketball team departed from Dublin to Lisbon, Portugal for the European Wheelchair Basketball C Division Championships, which is scheduled to get underway later today and the first games scheduled to take place on Monday. Ireland is scheduled to play Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Finland and Greece.
This is the first international competition Ireland’s men have participated in since 2009. The team has spent 18 months in training for their international return to the game, and have been led by national team coaches Jason Kennedy and Alan Caron.
The team had a warmup in advance of the tournament in mid-June when they played the NI Knights and other teams, when they competed in the Antrim hosted Knights 25th Anniversary Tournament.
