Yesterday, Ireland men’s national wheelchair basketball team lost to Bosnia & Herzegovina in Lisbon to find themselves in the bronze medal game against Finland at the IWBF European Wheelchair Basketball C Division Championships later today.
The game against Finland should be a right one for Ireland. They met Finland in round robin play, narrowly losing by two points in a game that ended 56 – 58.
This is the first international competition Ireland’s men have participated in since 2009. The team spent 18 months in training for their international return to the game, and have been led by national team coaches Jason Kennedy and Alan Caron. Prior to this, the team had played in the Division A European Championships twice during the 1990s, and competed in the and won Division B European Championships twice in competitions held in Warsaw, Poland and El Farrol, Spain.
