At an award ceremony hosted by the Asociación de la Prensa Deportiva Guipuzcoana  yesterday, Jon Santacana Maiztegui was named the 2014 Guipúzcoa Best Sportsman.  In response to winning the award on Facebook earlier today, he thank the association and congratulated his fellow nominees that included Lucas Eguibar, Richard Oribe, Imanol Garmendia and Esther López.

Santacana leaves 2014 on a high note, after winning a gold medal in Sochi at this year’s Winter Paralympic Games in the men’s visually impaired downhill event and a silver in the visually impaired slalom event.  These joined his already large collection of Paralympic alpine skiing medals.

The B2 classified skier had some questions coming into the year after sustaining an injury to his Achilles tendon in September of 2013.  He only really put on his skis in January in his effort to ready himself for Sochi.
