Jovane Guissone wins men’s B sabre at II Copa Brasil de Esgrima em Cadeira de Rodas 2014

Jovane Silva Guissone won the men’s B sabre at II Copa Brasil de Esgrima em Cadeira de Rodas 2014 in Curitiba, Brazil on the first full day of competition.  He defeated Alex Souza 15 – 13 in the final. Guissone went six for six in the event, not losing a single match.



Guissone is the reigning Paralympic gold medalist in the men’s B épée.  He lost to Ukrainian Anton Datsko in the quarter finals. He is also currently ranked first in the world in the men’s B épée, fifth in the world in men’s B foil, and unranked in the sabre.


Marcos Melo from Belo Horizonte  won the men’s C sabre event, while Janaina Aguilera won the women’s B sabre event.  The competition runs until Sunday, with the foil and épée still to be contested.


Wheelchair fencing has three classifications, A, B and C. A is for competitors with full trunk mobility. C is for competitors with paraplegia.  B is for competitors between A an C, and have limited trunk mobility.
