Latvia’s Poļina Rožkova is ready for IWAS Wheelchair Fencing European Championships scheduled to get underway tomorrow in Italy. She goes into the competition ranked fourth in the B Women’s Epee. All three fencers ranked above her are also Europeans, including number German Simone Briese-Baetke, number two Russian Viktoria Boykova and number one Russian Ludmila Vasileva.
The right handed 30-year-old fencer is coached by Mihails Jefremenko. This will be her first major wheelchair fencing competition of the year. At least year’s World Championships, she finished eighth in the epee. At a Paris hosted World Cup, she had a first place finish in the epee and another first place finish in the discipline at a World Cup event in Montreal.
Poļina Rožkova is a two sport competitor who has represented Latvia in wheelchair fencing and wheelchair curling. She has been part of the Latvia wheelchair curling team that tried to qualify for the world championships in 2012, 2013 and 2015. Rožkova has also been active in wheelchair fencing in the past three years.
