The women’s T12 class is similar to the T11 in that it is a class for people with vision impairments.  Sportswomen in this class have slightly better vision, and generally have the option of using a guide or not.  The class is also similar in that there aren’t that many available records to give a historical perspective.

Most of these records appear a lot more modern than the T11, with the oldest one in the women’s high jump, set by Estonia’s Helena Kannus-Silm in 2001, with a jump of 1.57 meters.  The event doesn’t often appear on the athletics program for this class, so this record is likely to stand for a long time.  A lot of records were broke last year at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha. Cuba’s Omara Durand set four world records, 2 in the 200 meters, one in the 100 meters and one in the 400 meters.  Russia’s Sofia Oksem also set one in the women’s shot put in Doha with a distance of 13.6.  She then beat that record earlier this year at the 2016 IPC European Athletics Championships with a throw of 13.68 meters.  She won’t be in Rio though as the Russian team has been suspended from Rio. Oksem also set a word record in the discuss at that event.  China’s Yuping Zhao set a world record in April of this year in Beijing with a throw of 42.73 meters in the javelin.  An earlier record had been set in 2011 by Serbia’s Tanja Dragic with a throw of 36.74 meters.
