The T20 class is for sportspeople with intellectual disabilities.  In general, this means they have IQs 75 or lower, have an intellectual disability that impairs their cognitive thinking and ability to live independently, and impacts their sport performance when compared to other people without disabilities.  While the class dates back to the 1990s, the cheating scandal at the Sydney Paralympics led to the class being suspended for a number of years.  They didn’t get reinstated until 2009, in time for the London Games.  The history of the class is one of the shorter ones, and there aren’t many available records.

With so few records available, Poland dominates the class with three different athletes holding four of the five events with athletes holding a record.  Barbara Niewiedzial holds world records in the 400 meters and the 1500 meters, while Arleta Meloch holds the record in the 800 meters and Karolina Kucharczyk claims the world record in the women’s T20 long jump.  The only other remaining non-vacant record is held by Croatia’s Mikela Ristoski.
