This weekend, a full national team camp is taking place at Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke-on-Trent, England with the Talent, Lions and England squads all participating.
The camp takes place ahead of the 2015 Boccia European Team and Pairs Championships scheduled to get underway on in two weeks in Guildford, Surrey, England. This competition is an important one for English boccia players and other Europeans looking ahead to Rio as the top eight finishers in the BC1/BC2 Team, BC3 Pair and BC4 earn their nations qualifying bearths to the 2016 Summer Paralympics.
Great Britain currently sits at the top of the rankings in the team event, and the BC3 pair event. Great Britain is ranked second in the world and number one in Europe in the BC4 event. In BC1 individual Great Britain’s David Smith is the top ranked player in the world. Nigel Murray is Great Britain’s top ranked player at seventh in the world in the BC2 individual event. Jacob Macedo is ranked fourth in the world in the BC3 event. In the BC4 individual event, Stephen McGuire is Great Britain’s top ranked player at sith in the world and second in Europe.
