Netherlands 7-a-side football team announces participation at British tournament ahead of Rio

The Netherlands 7-a-side football team announced today that they will be participating at a British tournament that gets underway on February 29 and runs until March 5.  The competition is part of the team’s preparations for Rio and the 2016 Paralympic Games.


Netherlands is scheduled to open the tournament against hosts Great Britain on March 1.  They play their second match against Russia on March 3.  They finish the competition by playing hosts Great Britain again on March 5.  The British side includes the best players from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Netherlands goes into the tournament looking to improve on their performance against Russia.  The last time the teams met was the 2014 World Championships, which saw Russia see the Netherlands out during the semi-finals after beating the Dutch side 6 – 0.
