Yesterday, the New Zealand shooting team of Grant Philip, Colin Philip and Jill Philip departed Auckland’s airport for the 2014 IPC Shooting World Championships in Suhl, Germany. Michael Johnson and Gregory Reid scheduled to compete but did not travel with them.
The country is returning the same team that competed at the last world championships in 2010 in Croatia. Johnson and Philip are SH2 classified shooters. Reid is an SH1 classified shooter. Johnson and Philip are scheduled to compete in the R5 air rifle prone and R4 air rifle standing events. Reid is scheduled to compete in the R3 air rifle prone and R6 50 metre rifle prone events.
At the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, Johnson won a bronze in the Mixed 10m air rifle standing SH2.
The event is scheduled to start July 18 and last until July 26. The first day of shooting is set for July 19. For the first time, visually impaired shooters have been invited to take part in a demonstration event to see about the feasibility of including visually impaired shooting under the umbrella of IPC Shooting.
