This past Sunday, Disability Sport NI, Triathlon Ireland and North West Triathlon Club held a  Para Triathlon development day at Templemore Sports Complex in Londonderry.

The day consisted of two sessions.  The first session, in the morning, was in the pool with participants getting one-on-one assistance from coaches on hand about how to improve their technique in the water.  The second session, in the afternoon, focused on cycling and racing.  For vision impaired competitors, they got training in tandem cycling and running with a guide.  For competitors with other disabilities, they were on the track using hand cycles and working on wheelchair racing.

Para-triathlon is scheduled to make its debut on the Paralympic program at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio.  The test event for the sport is scheduled for September of this year.
