The Toronto Goalball Invitational, test event for the 2015 ParaPan Am Games, wrapped up yesterday at the Hershey Centre in Toronto Canada with Nova Scotia grabbing the gold medal.
The Canadian Maritimers played inn the championship game against a very strong team from Michigan who finished first in the preliminary round.
The two teams split the 2 games they played against each other in the round robin with Michigan taking the first encounter by a score of 5-2 while Nova Scotia took the second match by a score of 5-0.
When the two teams came face to face again in the final game, the result would be something no one saw coming as Nova Scotia took immediate control of the game and never looked back winning the game by way of the mercy rule. The final score was 10-0.
The champions started slowly with a 5-2 loss in their first game of the tournament and didn’t appear to have their game totally in order. Over the course of the tournament their trademark strangling defence continued to round in to it’s typical form – the same form that allowed them to win both the Montreal Open and USABA Midwest Regionals this season and fall just 1 goal short of a National Championship. By the time they ended their round robin it appeared to be at 100% and stayed there throughout the playoffs.
Rounding out the field of the tournament was a pair of young teams in Alberta & Ontario. Alberta managed to get the upper hand on 4th place Ontario to finish third.
