Nova Scotia wins double gold at Midwest Regional Goalball Tournament

This past weekend in Warren, Michigan, the Nova Scotia men and women’s goalball teams both claimed gold at the 32nd Annual Midwest Regional Goalball Tournament.  The win was a major one for the women of Nova Scotia as it was the first gold they had collected at a goalball tournament.  For the men, the win continued their gold medal streak at this tournament, having won their third consecutive time.

The results are important as they give both teams a fair bit of momentum headed into the Canadian National Goalball Championships, where the men will be looking to defend their national title and the women will be looking to claim their first ever gold in a tournament that has traditional been dominated by Ontario.

Both teams are coached by Linda MacRae Triff and Alcide Richard.  The men’s team includes Simon Richard, Oliver Pye, Peter Parsons, Mason Smith and Yvon Clement.  The women’s team includes Stephanie Berry, Jennie Bovard, Tarah Sawler and Cassie Orgeles. Smith and Sawler have both had call ups to Canada’s junior national goalball teams.
