Rotterdam organizers of the Special Olympics European Sailing Regatta 2016,  Stichting Plons, have been very active recently in preparation for the event, scheduled to get underway on May 13 and conclude May 15.

This is the first time Special Olympics is having a European Sailing Regatta in Rotterdam, and it is scheduled to include Special Olympics teams from the Netherlands, Belgium and Greece.  Sailors are scheduled to stay at  Stayokay Hostel. Sailing will take place at the Yachtclub “Rotterdam”.

Host city Rotterdam has a long history of sailing, dating back over 100 years.  Stichting Plons have been involved with supporting disability sailing for over ten years.  They regularly provide small grants to assist other organizations in making the sport accessible to all.  This includes people with intellectual disabilities, wheelchair users and others with physical disabilities. Sailing has been part of the Special Olympics program in the Netherlands for several years, and is on the country’s national games program.
