Poland’s IKS Atak defeats Austria’s national sledge hockey team in 2014 Elbag International Sledge Hockey Tourney opener

This morning in Elbag, Poland, Poland’s IKS Atak, Poland’s national team, defeated Austria’s national sledge hockey team 2 – 0 in 2014 Elbag International Sledge Hockey Tourney opener. Both of Poland’s goals game in the second period.



The hosting Polish team trained at Lodowisko „Helena” in advance of the competition, and includes women on the side. Prior to going tournament, they participated in a photo shoot. The team is relatively new, as it was created in 2006.


The Austrian departed for Poland on Tuesday, after issues with their original Lufthansa had issues because of a pilot strike. One option they considered was a nine hour bus ride. The team trained at Albert-Schultz-Eishalle in advance of the competition.


The tournament wraps up on Monday with finals in the morning. It features seven teams, including Poland’s IKS Atak, Austria’s national team, Russia’s Moscow Region Fenix, the Slovakia national team, Germany’s Bremen Pirates, Finland’s Helsinki Karhu-Kissat, Sweden’s Malmo Sledgehammers.
