Russian men continue to lead at IBSA European Men’s C Goalball Championships

With two days of competition complete 2015 IBSA Goalball European C Championships in  Malmö, Sweden, Russia’s men continue lead the competition with 5 wins.  Great Britain is second with 4 wins and a loss.  Portugal is third with 4 wins and a loss.  Great Britain leads on goal different 30 – 12 compared to Portugal’s 24 – 12.  These three teams have clinched semifinal spots in games played later today.  Greece and Italy are fighting for the fourth spot in matched played this morning.



Yesterday’s games saw Portugal beat Italy 7 – 6, Russia beat Great Britain 10 – 7.  Croatia went down to Greece 1 – 11.  Italy lost to Russia 8 – 10.  Portugal beat Croatia 5 – 2.  Great Britain had a squeaker against Bulgaria, winning 7 – 6.  Greece lost badly to Portugal 1 – 7.  Croatia also lost badly but to Team GB, losing 2 – 11.  Italy put away Bulgaria 12 – 4.


The Russian team includes Sergey Avdoshkin, Alexey Sokolov, Dmitry Elin, Vladimir Borblik, Daniil Isay and Eduard Pambukhchian.  The British side  includes David Butler of Nottingham, Filmon Eyassu of Cambridge, Adam Knott and David Knott of Winchester, and Daniel Roper who plays for RNC Hereford. Portugal’s team includes Hadiley Sacramento, Mário Cameiro, João Pereira, João Mota Sousa, Luís Míguel and Nuno Antunes. Skourmpoutis Ioannis, Chatzipantou Athanasios, Karamitsos Antonios, Alexiou Michail, Palialexis Dimitrios and Tatsis Grigorios make up the Greek roster. The Italian side includes Dario Merelli, Nicholas Emanuele Domenico, Salvatore Parisi, Gennaro Florio, Tapia Oney and Antonio Di Pasquale.


Group play takes place for the first two days of competition, with the semifinals, bronze medal and gold medal matches scheduled for Thursday. The top three finishers of this competition move up to the European B Men’s Championship for 2016.
