Sierra Leone’s table tennis player George Wyndham is scheduled to be back in action internationally tomorrow at the Lignano Master Open 2015 in Italy. after missing US Open Paralympics Championship in December 2014 because of concerns about his country people traveling to the country because of the Ebola scare in his country.
Earlier this month, Sierra Leone’s President Ernest Bai Koroma announced that he was providing sponsorship for Wyndam that covered air-fare, accommodation and a per-diem. This enabled him to go to Italy for the event. Wyndham was quoted by Sierra Leone Sports as saying of this, “The President’s assistance came at the right time and I am grateful for that. This shows my effort over the years in representing Sierra Leone with support from Mercury International did not go in vain.”
Wyndham is currently 120th in the world in the men’s wheelchair group, and ranked 32nd in the Class 4 event. He has a current rating of 982. If he can break into a top eleven spot before the end of the qualifying period, he would get an invite to compete at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. This competition counts as a ranking event for points.
