Spanish women finish out of medals at European Deaf Futsal Championships

Yesterday in Sofia, Bulgaria, the Spanish women finished just out of the medals with a fourth place finish at the European Deaf Futsal Championships.  They lost the bronze medal game to England 6 – 1.

England took an early lead, surprising the Spanish side by scoring 3 goals in the first five minutes of the game.  The Spaniards tried to go on the attack, and managed to prevent the English side from scoring again in the first half. England came into the second half and scored another two early goals.  Spanish player Alexandra Sanchis got injured and needed to be substituted out. Leticia managed to score a goal for Spain to bring the game to 5 – 1.  Spain then gave away a penalty to England who scored to bring the game to 6 – 1.  The game finished shortly after that.

 

The gold medal game will be played later today. Otherwise, the final standings saw England finish third, Spain fourth, Denmark fifth, Belgium sixth, Norway seventh, Poland eighth, Sweden ninth, Hungary tenth, Italy eleventh, Ireland twelfth, Turkey thirteenth, and Switzerland last.
