Talking the lingo in Rio: Chatting with your new Polish speaking friends about football

This article is a series of language learning posts by ParaSport News.  The goal is to provide sport fans some very basic sport and Paralympic vocabulary so you can talk with the world about disability sport at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio.

The Polish language mostly means Poland, though native speakers are also found in the United States, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Belarus, Hungary and Slovakia.  Poland is also a Paralympic medal winning powerhouse, ranked ninth all time in total medals.  If you’re looking to find out more about how the best do it, your new Polish friends might be able to give you some tips. The language in the same family as both Czech and Slovak so a few words here or there might aid in communication with speakers of those languages too.
