Scots is the native language of about 110,000 people though around 1.5 million people have some level of fluency in the language. Most of the speakers are clustered in Scotland, with other speakers found in the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Ireland. It is a West Germanic language. Scotland and Northern Ireland have both provided the United Kingdom with a number of Paralympic medalist in recent times, and Scotland has its own national team in several sports.
