Top ranked Houston TIRR Junior Hotwheels ready for NWBA National Championships

With the NWBA Junior Division – Varsity National Championships scheduled to get underway later today at the Kentucky Expo Center in Lousville, the top ranked Houston TIRR Junior Hotwheels are ready to compete.   The team meets the sixteenth seed  Chicago Skyhawks  in their opening match in a game scheduled to get underway at  11:45AM local time. The Hotwheels come into the tournament as easy favorites having been at the top of the NWBA Junior rankings for several months.



Fabian Romo, who currently leads the team in scoring and was part of the 2013 championship winning side, was quoted in a press release about his readiness for the tournament,  “I sort of have an older brother mentality now, I want to take care of everybody and lighten up the mood. […] This is my family and winning another championship with my family would be amazing.” Romo is currently a senior at Elkins High School in Missouri City, Texas.


Teammate Abraham Hausman-Weiss was quoted in the same press release as saying,  “I love the comradery of this team. […] “When we moved here from Alabama I was looking for a team and started reading about the Hotwheels and thought, wow, they’re a really good team. It’s exciting to contend for a National Championship.” Hausman-Weiss is currently a junior at The Emery/Weiner School in Houston


The Junior Hotwheels  roster includes Angel Palomares, Dustin Stallberg, Aaron Berry, Peter Berry, Fabian Romo, Victor Meza, Abraham Hausman-Weiss, Carrington Marendes, Daquan Minor.  They are coached by  Trice Ham, with Ava Skrabanek serving as the assistant coach.  They practice every Tuesday at the West Gray Metropolitan Multi-Service Center in Houston.


The Junior Hotwheels are joined by Division III TIRR Houston Hotwheels.  The team was ranked eleventh on the most recent rankings published in mid-March.  They open this morning at 9:45 AM local time against twenty-second seeded Pittsburgh Steelwheelers.  If they win, they will meet sixth seeded Richmond Rimriders in a game scheduled to get underway at 5:15 PM.
