Türkiye İşitme Engelliler Spor Federasyonu elects Yakup Ümit as President

This past weekend, Türkiye İşitme Engelliler Spor Federasyonu, Turkey’s national deaf sport federation, held their Annual General Meeting where they elected Yakup Ümit as President of the organization. 181 of the 186 eligible delegates attended the meeting. 94 of them voted for Ümit.



The meeting was held at the Angora Otel’e in Ankara.  The Federation provided eligible delegates with bus transportation and accommodation to attend the meting.


The organization was founded in 2000, and is affiliated with European Deaf Sports Organization, and the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf.  There is a thriving deaf soccer, deaf basketball and deaf badminton community in the country who actively participate in domestic and international competitions.  The Turkish city of Samsun was selected to host the 2017 Deaflympics.
