United States men beat Argentina at 2015 Americas Wheelchair Basketball Challenge

Yesterday at the Mattamy Athletic Centre  in Toronto, the United States men beat Argentina 80 – 42 in the opening game of the  2015 Americas Wheelchair Basketball Challenge.



Carter Arey and Jake Williams  both put up 20 points for the United States on the team’s way to victory. Arey had 5 points off 8 free throw attempts, while Williams 4 of 5 at the free throw line. Arey scored one three-pointer on one attempt, and went 6 of 12 at the two-point line. Williams went 8 of 12 at the two-point line.  Argentina’s Daniel Copa led the game in scoring with 22, going 4 of 4 at the free throw line and 9 of 14 at the two-point line. Sergio Vera was next up in scoring for the Argentinians with 8 off of 4 two-point shots.


In the second game of the day, Canada beat Brazil 76 – 64. David Eng led Canada in scoring with 20 points, while teammate Bo Hedges put in 19. Leandro Mirando led the Brazilians in scoring with 18.


The competition is a warm up for all teams for the upcoming 2015 Para Panamerican Games in Toronto in August.  This competition itself is a qualifier for the 2016 Summer Paralympics.
